Who We Are

OVERVIEW

Kijani Africa is a Tanzanian non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to the conservation of ecosystems and biodiversity through strategic partnerships with local communities. Established in 2013, Kijani Africa is committed to fostering a harmonious relationship between humans and nature, with a focus on empowering indigenous communities to restore and protect their environments for sustainable livelihoods.We have Offices Located at Arusha(HQ),Kigoma,Tanga & Morogoro.

Our mission is to create harmony between humans and nature through enhanced ecosystem and biodiversity conservation in collaboration with indigenous communities.

We envision a future where indigenous communities are empowered to restore and protect their environment, ensuring sustainable livelihoods for generations to come.

objectives:

  1. Restoring degraded areas, riverine forests and conserving water catchments
  2. Restoring smallholder farmers’ land to boost socio-economic development
  3. Creating financial incentives and jobs for tree growing and caretaking for poverty alleviation
  4. Promote adaptation strategies and innovative technologies to mitigate the impact of climate change that threaten indigenous communities. 
  5. Promote the protection of biodiversity and natural resource stewardship by Improving access to indigenous tree saplings and seeds through our nurseries.
  6. Facilitating environmental training, climate incubators, accelerators and bootcamps for rural communities particularly youth and women that promote the sustainable use of natural resources and forest products for income generating opportunities 
  7. Growing value-aligned partnerships to accelerate scale environmental stewardship.  The organization will partner with international and local universities, organizations, associations, corporations (public and private) to accelerate scale.
  8. The organization shall engage with both local and national government bodies to advocate for environmental policies that promote sustainable development and protect the environment.  
  9. Empowering indigenous communities with sustainable land use systems and farming practices that will enhance their productivity, ensure food security and improve soil health on their farms.

KEY ACHIEVEMENTS

WE ARE PROUD TO HAVE:
  • Tree Nurseries: Kijani Africa operates two indigenous tree species nurseries located in Lushoto, Tanga, and Arusha. These nurseries boast a production capacity of over 100,000 trees annually.
  • Reforestation Efforts: Since our inception, we have planted over 2 million trees, significantly contributing to the restoration of over 200 hectares of forest.
  • Community Impact: Our projects have directly benefited over 3,500 smallholder farmers across the Tanga, Dar Es Salaam, Morogoro, Kilimanjaro, and Arusha regions.
  • GHG Sequestration: Kijani Africa’s planted trees have sequestered 44,000 tons of CO2e per year and 440,000 tons of CO2e in 10 years.

As a seasoned Certified Public Accountant (ACPA) with over 17 years of hands-on experience, I bring a wealth of expertise in Financial Management, Strategic Planning, and Organizational Leadership. My professional journey has been marked by a commitment to excellence, evidenced by my successful oversight of multi-million-dollar budgets, comprehensive audit coordination, and the implementation of advanced accounting systems.

With  Master’s of Business Management and Advanced Diploma in Accountancy, I have consistently delivered value by enhancing financial reporting for informed decision-making at both management and board levels. My background spans various sectors, where I’ve led complex financial operations, ensured compliance with regulatory requirements, and managed donor funds from prominent global entities.
